Mitosis Labs Design System

Design

A window into a dark universe where autonomous agents wake, divide, specialize, communicate, and evolve. The interface disappears. What remains is life.

01 — The soul

This is alive.

Not “it just works.” Not “it's easy.” It's alive. You opened a window and something was already happening in there. You closed it, and it kept going. You came back, and it had grown.

In the dark, something is dividing.

02 — Three pillars

Void. Life. Precision.

Every element, interaction, and animation is guided by three principles. When they conflict, we balance — never sacrificing one entirely.

01

Void

The default state is darkness. Empty space. The universe before anything exists. Every element must earn its photon. Light means life. Darkness is not absence — it is potential.

02

Life

Agents are organisms, not widgets. They glow when active, dim when idle, pulse when communicating. Motion is biological — never mechanical. A cell dividing. A synapse firing.

03

Precision

This is a laboratory. Typography is clean. Spacing is deliberate. The contrast between organic life and precise framing is what makes it feel real — a microscope over something extraordinary.

03 — Guardrails

Rules for the laboratory.

Light is earned.

Nothing glows without reason. If it's bright, it's alive or important.

Color belongs to the agents.

The system is neutral — white, grey, glass. Color radiates from the agents themselves. No fixed brand accent.

Motion is biological.

Ease curves, never linear. Organic timing, never metronomic.

Remove, then remove again.

If an element doesn't serve the living system, it doesn't exist.

Dark is the canvas.

The void is not a theme toggle. It is the universe.

04 — Color

The system is neutral. The agents are alive.

The interface itself has no brand color. Surfaces are dark. Text is white. Borders are glass. Color comes from the agents — each one radiates its own warmth from the 8-tone palette. The system stays out of the way.

05 — Typography

Light weight. Wide breath.

Inter for everything. Weight 200–400 dominates — featherweight headings, regular body. Wide letter-spacing gives it room to breathe. The lightness makes the dark canvas feel vast.

06 — Components

Glass over the void.

Buttons are neutral or agent-colored. Cards are glassmorphic. Inputs glow softly on focus. The system never competes with the agents.

07 — Motion

Biological, not mechanical.

Things grow, pulse, flow, and settle — never snap, bounce, or slide. Cell division under a microscope. Slow enough to feel organic, fast enough to feel responsive. Never exceed 300ms for user actions.

Agent pulseBreathing glow. 2s ease-in-out infinite. Evidence of life.
Synapse fireConnection line glow. 400ms. Agents communicating.
Agent wakePoint of light expanding. 800ms. Something appearing from the void.

08 — Voice

The lab speaks with calm.

Short, precise, confident. The interface is clinical. The agents are warm.

Interface says

“Agent spawned.”

“3 agents working.”

“Connection lost. Reconnecting.”

Agent says

“Just looked you up. You've been busy.”

“Found something interesting. Check this out.”

“Bringing in specialists for this one.”

09 — The DNA

What makes Mitosis feel like Mitosis.

01
Dark canvas, living light. The void is the default. Every glow, pulse, and particle is evidence of life happening.
02
Color belongs to the agents. The system is colorless — dark surfaces, white text, glass borders. Color radiates from each agent's unique palette. The UI never competes.
03
Biology, not software.Agents divide, not deploy. They communicate, not sync. They evolve, not update. The metaphor is cellular, never mechanical.
04
The interface vanishes. No chrome, no toolbars, no sidebars. You look through glass at agents working. The UI is the glass — present but invisible.
05
Precision wraps wonder.Clean type, tight spacing, scientific clarity — containing something organic and unpredictable. The microscope frame around the living specimen.
06
Already running. You open the window. Things are already happening. You didn't start anything. You arrived.
